| A frighteningly honest portrayal, played in real time using genuine accounts of the events on United Flight 93 which crashed on 9/11, United 93 is a heartbreaking film which uses VFX purely as a narrative tool.
As the majority of the film takes place onboard the plane, Machine were assigned a number of interior green-screens into which were composited cloud and sky plates into the often erratic movement of the windows, as the aeroplane jolted unsteadily in the air.
A central element within the cockpit scenes, Machine’s artists, under the guidance of VFX Supervisor, Peter Chiang, composited green-screen skies into the cockpit and using complex 3D cockpit tracking, added dirt plates and reflection to the windows.
Throughout the film, all the effects are made simply to enhance the story-telling process and were designed to be invisible.
