Hot Fuzz (Universal / Rogue Pictures)

Director: Edgar Wright
VFX Supervisor: Richard Briscoe

Delivering action packed shots for the police based comedy, “Hot Fuzz” was a VFX explosion! From flying pineapples to gunshot and debris enhancement, Machine was able to encompass an element of personality into it’s work.

Many of Machine’s shots featured in the explosive final battle and involved a great deal of muzzle flash and debris enhancements and plenty of camera shake in order that the viewer could feel more immersed in the carnage!

One of Machine’s shots included the creation of CG bullet holes in an upturned table being used as a shield by actors and co-creators, Simon Pegg and Nick Frost as they face shotgun fire. Using SFX footage of a door rigged with explosives, the team carefully created bullet elements at the correct perspective for the table and the impact, before carefully tracking into the background plate. The pub was then revealed through the bullet holes, and Wooden splinters and CG dust enhancements were later added to complete the explosive shot.
